Tenable, a leader in cybersecurity solutions, has announced a groundbreaking addition to its suite of cybersecurity tools: AI Aware. This new solution is designed to provide exposure insights into AI applications, libraries, and plugins so that organizations can identify and mitigate AI risks without disrupting business operations.

The motivation for this development stems from the rapid integration of AI technologies into modern industries, along with the accompanying cybersecurity and compliance risks. The novelty of these AI technologies introduces new challenges for organizations, such as vulnerability detection, remediation, and unauthorized AI use.

According to recent Tenable Research, over one-third of security teams have discovered that informally acquired AI applications are being used within their environments. This form of shadow IT introduces complications for organizations due to the growing number of vulnerabilities associated with AI.

Tenable’s AI Aware aims to address this issue and provides a transformative approach to proactive security for AI solutions.

It leverages components including agents, passive network monitoring, dynamic application security testing, and distributed scan engines to detect both authorized and unauthorized AI software, libraries, and browser plugins. It also identifies vulnerabilities linked to these AI resources, thereby reducing the risks of exploitation and data leakage.

By combining these components, the solution provides a comprehensive overview of the AI elements within an organization’s environment.

In addition to AI software and vulnerability detection, other AI Aware features available in Tenable Vulnerability Management, Tenable Security Center and Tenable One include:

  • Dashboard Views: Provides a snapshot of the most common AI software discovered in the ecosystem, top assets with AI-related vulnerabilities, and the most common communication ports used by AI technologies.
  • Shadow Software Development Detection: Identifies unexpected AI development components within the environment.
  • Filter Findings for AI Detections: Allows teams to focus on AI-related vulnerabilities during vulnerability assessments.
  • Asset-Centric AI-Inventory: Provides a detailed inventory of AI-related packages, libraries and browser plugins while reviewing the detailed profile of an asset.

Tenable’s AI Aware helps navigate the complexities of AI security. By delivering robust detection and management capabilities, it ensures that organizations can effectively address AI-related risks and maintain secure, compliant operations.
