Tenable, a leader in cybersecurity solutions, has announced plans to acquire Apex Security, a startup that develops Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven solutions. This acquisition is expected to enhance Tenableโs ability to help organizations identify and manage AI-related cyber risks.
As organizations integrate AI technologies into their operations, they face associated risks. Some of these risks include shadow AI, which refers to AI applications running without approval, AI-generated code that may contain vulnerabilities, fake identities created by AI, and cloud services that arenโt properly managed.
Apexโs platform helps companies track these risks by providing clear visibility into AI activity, enforcing rules about how AI can be used, and limiting exposure before problems arise.
In 2024, Tenable introduced Tenable AI Aware, a solution that helps organizations detect and assess AI usage across their networks. The addition of Apexโs capabilities will build on this foundation by enabling organizations to govern AI use, enforce policies, and control exposure for both AI they develop and AI they deploy.
This supports Tenableโs goal to offer easy-to-scale, all-in-one exposure management as AI use continues to grow.
Steve Vintz, Co-CEO and CFO of Tenable, emphasized that AI expands the attack surface with risks that most organizations are unprepared to handle. Tenable aims to manage these risks, and eliminate them before they can be exploited.
Tenable plans to integrate Apexโs technologies into its Tenable One platform by the second half of 2025. The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, but the deal is expected to close within the current quarter.
By combining their expertise, Tenable and Apex will provide organizations with stronger tools to safely adopt and control AI technologies.
