The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has released a groundbreaking framework called the “Roles and Responsibilities Framework for Artificial Intelligence in Critical Infrastructure,” developed by the Artificial Intelligence Safety and Security Board.
This resource provides guidance for stakeholders across the AI supply chain, including cloud providers, AI developers, critical infrastructure owners, civil society, and public sector entities. The framework identifies three primary categories of AI vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure: attacks using AI, attacks targeting AI systems, and design and implementation failures.
It provides specific recommendations for each stakeholder group, emphasizing practices such as secure development, strong cybersecurity, privacy protection, and transparency.
DHS intends that this framework ensures the safe and secure development and deployment of AI technologies, complementing other government initiatives on AI safety.
